Morocco to appeal to CAS over Munir's eligibility for the World Cup

fter their qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Morocco will attempt to acquire the services of Munir El Haddadi through an official appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The Alaves forward played only 13 minutes for the Spanish national team in 2014 against Macedonia and due to the rules of FIFA isn't eligible to participate in a different national squad.

Born in Spain to Moroccan parents, Munir debuted in La Roja's 5-0 victory but hasn't managed to receive more playing time since then.

Although he has already asked the football governing body to change his footballing nationality, the Spanish FA aren't eager to collaborate and let him go.

In case the former Barcelona prospect gets the approval from CAS, he will have to compete for a position in Morocco's attacking line with the team's top scorer in the qualifiers, Khalid Boutaib, and players such as Achraf Bencharki, Nordin Amrabat and Hakim Ziyech.
